From Red Dust to White Sands runs the classic southern Kenya route, pairing the red earth of the Tsavo parks with the Indian Ocean coast. You begin in Tsavo East National Park, famous for its enormous elephant herds coloured rust red by the dust they bathe in, and for the legend of the man eating lions of Tsavo. Tsavo West follows, greener and more dramatic, with a visit to the rhino sanctuary and the clear volcanic pools of Mzima Springs where hippo and fish can be watched through an underwater viewing chamber.
From Mtito Andei you connect by train to Mombasa, trading the bush for the beach with two full days at leisure in Mombasa or Diani before travelling back to Nairobi. Six days is enough to see two very different parks and still get proper time by the sea, which makes this a comfortable choice for families who want a safari that ends on a slow note. Park fees, all meals, mineral water and transfers are included.
