The Marangu Route is popularly known as the Coca-Cola route and is the one many people choose because of its gradual slope. It is also the only route on Kilimanjaro offering sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodation rather than tents, which makes a real difference in comfort and in wet weather. The climb passes from rainforest through moorland and alpine desert to the ice capped summit at Uhuru Peak, 5,895m, the highest point in Africa.
The programme is five days on the mountain plus two nights in an Arusha hotel, making seven days in total including travel days to and from Tanzania. The trek can start from either Arusha or Kenya. Climbers reaching Gillman’s Point receive green certificates and those reaching Uhuru Peak receive gold. Park fees, hut fees, three meals a day, mineral water, a sleeping bag, porters, cook and guide are all included.
