The Naro Moru Route is the fastest and most direct way to Point Lenana, which makes it the popular choice for trekkers working to a tight schedule. It climbs the western side of Mount Kenya through dense rainforest to the Meteorological Station, then crosses the notorious Vertical Bog into open moorland before reaching Mackinder’s Camp in the Teleki Valley beneath the main peaks.
Summit morning starts at 2am for a four hour climb to reach Point Lenana at 4,985m by sunrise, with the descent returning the same way. Being the shortest route it is also the steepest in terms of daily height gain, so a reasonable level of fitness matters here. Park fees, full board on the mountain, porters, a skilled cook, treated water, an English speaking guide and your summit certificate are included.
