The Nairobi Animal Orphanage is a Kenya Wildlife Service rescue and rehabilitation centre at the main gate of Nairobi National Park, established in 1964. It takes in orphaned, injured and abandoned wild animals from across the country, treats them, and returns to the wild those that can survive independently.
Residents typically include lion, leopard, cheetah, serval, hyena, baboon, buffalo, warthog and various monkeys and birds, many of which cannot be released. Keepers explain each animal’s history, which makes this one of the more genuinely educational stops in Nairobi and a firm favourite with children. Entrance fees, hotel pick up and drop off, mineral water and a professional guide are included.
