Nairobi National Park is the only national park in the world that sits on the doorstep of a capital city. Seven kilometres from the centre of town, open plains hold black rhino, lion, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and over 400 recorded bird species, with the city skyline visible on the horizon behind them. It is a genuinely strange and wonderful sight, and it means you can be watching a lion before most people have finished breakfast.
The park is one of Kenya’s most successful rhino sanctuaries and one of the few places where you have a realistic chance of seeing black rhino in the wild. Early morning is by far the best time to go, when predators are still active and the light is good. The only member of the big five absent here is the elephant. Park entrance fees, hotel transfers, mineral water and a professional guide are included.
